Recipe: Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For optimal benefits, a healthy breakfast should be eaten within a half hour of waking up in the morning.  Ben shares a warm and healthy recipe that’s quick and easy to enjoy!

Ingredients and equipment you will need:


1/2 apple (preferably McIntosh), cored and coarsely chopped


1/2 cup rolled oats


1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Pinch kosher salt


1 cup water


1 tablespoon pure maple syrup


1/4  cup toasted pecans


Microwave safe serving bowl


Measuring cup


Measuring spoons




Large spoon


Apple corer (optional)




Always wash your hands
before handling any food.

Step 1

Carefully slice & core the apple.
It can be safer and easier to use a corer if one is available.
If assistance is needed using a knife, ask for help,
or purchase apples already cut from the produce section of the grocery store.


Step 2

Cut the apple into chunks.


Step 3

Pour 1 cup of oats into a microwave safe serving bowl.




Step 4

Add a pinch of salt and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon to the oats.


Step 5

Put apples into the bowl with the oats.


Step 6

Pour in 1 cup of water and stir everything together.


Step 7

Put in microwave on high for 2 minutes.  If most of the water is not absorbed, cook for 30 more seconds.


Step 8

Add 1 tablespoon maple syrup to oatmeal and stir.




Step 9

Pour 1/4 cup pecans on top.




Additional options for fabulous oatmeal:

Sliced bananas and a scoop of peanut butter are great additions.

Top it off with a serving of fresh or frozen berries.

Instead of maple syrup try using a non-calorie natural sweetener like Truvia, or a low-glycemic sweetener like organic blue agave.
